Gov't Mule Birmingham Concert reviews
Good show
It was a good show overall. Singing songs from different genres, he made a better concert by doing it. He has a great voice and could sing pretty much any style of music he wanted to. I would not call most of what he sings country, he just doesn't have a country voice, but that is not a bad thing. Singing live he sounds just like he does on his CDs. He didn't try to make his voice fit the music, he just sang with his natural voice and sounded the better for it. The opening act was not who was originally billed and the concert started an hour late, never was told why. They never got the sound right and I had to put my fingers in my ears to stop my eardrums from crackling and popping. This would not be a big deal except the replacement act was not good. I very much enjoyed Gov't Mule, but I thought his set was short, only about an hour and twenty-five minutes tops. If the opening act had been good the length would not be an issue. I would go to another of his concerts if it was not a far drive and the opening act was good. Gov't Mule looked liked he enjoyed doing the concert and that he wanted you to enjoy it too. I think he succeeded in this in that everyone seemed to be having a good time.
